$6 Million Settlement for Infant Paralyzed at Birth Due to Rodent-Borne Infection

On December 6, 2013, an Atlantic County judge approved a $6 million settlement for an infant who was born paralyzed, blind, deaf, and may never be able to speak. The cause of the injuries was alleged to be a mouse-borne virus that was transmitted while in utero by his mother. The mother had complained numerous times about rodent infestation problems at the Atlantic City, NJ apartment complex where she lived. The owner of the apartment complex was sued, in addition the company responsible for management of the complex. An exterminator who had performed work at the complex was also brought into the case as a third-party.
