A pedestrian who was injured when struck by an automobile in Union, NJ recently settled her personal injury lawsuit for $1.65 million. Plaintiff was attempting to cross the street in a crosswalk at the on-ramp to Route 78 when she was hit. Plaintiff, a working community college student, sustained head injuries, a broken leg, a lacerated femoral artery and a fractured vertebrae. She now walks with a limp and has not worked or attended school since the accident. Discovery and investigation revealed that the site of the accident was under construction and that visibility was poor because a street light wasn’t working. Thus, in addition to the driver of the offending automobile, the state, who was overseeing the project, and the construction company working at the site were sued. The case settled prior to trial.
